Bifrost: Letter From the Author

Letter from the Author
An ode to my love of fantasy, Bifrost was the first novel I began to write with intent of completion. The characters, their passion, their drive, and ambition spoke to me and kept me grounded through very dark times.
Even when I did not love myself, I loved these characters, and loved this world.
Originally I planned for Bifrost to be a standalone, a tale that may end in tragedy but spoke to the power of love and self-sacrifice. But through the years it evolved into a universe that seemed ever expanding, one that I wanted to tell the tales of from corner to corner.
Perhaps that was because as I wrote, my love for the world grew and so did my desire to keep living to tell the tale.
The ending came from feelings of displacement–never truly feeling you belong in a world until someone or something shows you the beauty around you and all you are capable of.
Often we set goals and tasks for ourselves much like Aztrit, who believed her father’s full recognition was all that was destined for her, her defining purpose. When the truth is that the universe had much more in store for her than she could possibly imagine.
In the midst of my despair that truth comforted me, allowing me to believe that although I felt perhaps my purpose was unclear, or I was unworthy of love and recognition–my life, my art, my soul was meant for more. Even if I had to surpass myself to reach it.
The idea of killing the old self to make way for something new–something eternal, is not meant to inspire, but to make readers wary that when we face our despair seemingly alone and feel that there is no option but to give up, in our darkest hours we can still find our light, and help others discover the same.
The blessing of perspective can come from anyone, anywhere, and when it does, it is impossible to maintain the negative, untrue views we tell ourselves about who we are and what we are meant for.
The completion of this story was profound. It was a feeling of satisfaction and reward that I will never forget. Carrying on its legacy and continuing it until we have our true ending will be a journey, and one that I hope will bring you as much joy and light as it has brought me.
We part for now, but soon Nightshade will be on our horizon.
